Xtreme Dance Force - sound familiar? The name should. The Naperville-based hip-hop troupe lasted three weeks on MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew" last summer. Now, local fans can take lessons at the group's new home, the new Xtreme Dance Center.
Naperville's Sam Renzetti, 28, owner of the recently opened Xtreme Dance Center, already has produced celebrity dancers and promises to do it again.
"I began taking dance when I was 8 years old," the young entrepreneur said. "I started out in tap and ballet and jazz, and by 13, hip-hop had become popular with people like 'M C Hammer.' I moved down to L.A. and got involved with a hip-hop dance company in the fall of 2002 that just took off.
"And now we've got our own studio that's multi-faceted, and we're doing all styles of dance, working with all ages."

Place of their own

Last October, Renzetti acquired property at 790 Royal St. George Drive in Naperville and pumped $200,000 into renovations. He also expanded the floor space of an existing studio. At 10,000-square-feet, the facility is complete with viewing windows, a parent lounge, full kitchen, study and kids play areas, and Wi-Fi access.
Dance instruction is provided by a dozen instructors, all of whom, Renzetti promises, "are top-notch professional performers in their own rite," with hopes of reaching national recognition.
"When you open a restaurant, and you want to be the best, you bring in the best chef, and if you want to win in football, you need a great coach," he said. "Our goal is to be the best dance studio in Naperville in our first year, become the best in Illinois after that, and within five years, the best in the country."

Passion for dance

Renzetti says he has been contacted by recording artists and theater stars alike, and that the Xtreme Dance Force Co. has opened for a who's who of celebrity recording artists, including Soulja Boy, Ciara, Ludacris, Chingy, Chamillionaire, Tyrese, Lupe Fiasco, Bow Wow, Mims and Twista.
Besides being a finalist on MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew Season 2," Renzetti said the group also was featured in two MTV Hip Hop episodes."
The dance company has competed and been awarded the World Victory Cup for three years, 2006 through 2008, and has been rated one of the top five dance companies in the country in this year's Dance Spirit Magazine.
Credentials aside, Renzetti said dancing is all about three components: attitude, passion and commitment.
"I started teaching dancing when I was 14 years old in the inner city portion of Aurora with kids who had absolutely no skills or background," he said. "But those kids had passion, and we taught them how to dance."
